Edible Gardening for Pollinators

Saturday, March 1, 2025
10:00 am12:00 pm

When envisioning a garden for pollinators, lush native plant landscapes often come to mind. However, a vegetable garden, thoughtfully designed with pollinators in mind can yield equally or even superior results. By treating vegetables with the same care and attention typically reserved for native plants, gardeners can create a pollinator-friendly space that is not only productive but also cost-effective and easier to manage. Edibles, often overlooked in discussions about pollinator habitats, offer significant ecological benefits. Winter vegetables, like Brassicas native to Europe, align well with the foraging needs of honey bees, which are primarily German or Italian in origin. Conversely, most summer vegetables, native to the Americas, provide critical resources for native bee species, creating a dynamic and seasonally balanced pollinator ecosystem.
Attendees will learn strategies to maximize pollinator support while enjoying the rewards of a flourishing vegetable garden.
