I Can Do It! Drum Circle for Children with Disabilities
The arts, especially music, offer power-packed experiences for all students, including those with disabilities. Everybody wins by increasing exposure to music and other art forms for such children. Research has shown that hand drumming is beneficial to children with disabilities in many ways. It’s a multisensory activity that helps to develop creativity, eye-hand coordination, motor skills, communication, social skills, and teamwork. It boosts confidence and self-esteem. Also, drumming involves physical exercise and play, and is just plain fun! Children will learn about rhythm and rhyme, sing songs, and make music in their own unique ways on West African djembe drums and other percussion instruments.
*For children with autism, Down syndrome, and developmental delays.
