Florence News Journal, April 11, 2017

George Brown and Erik MarechalFlorence – Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area has presented its first “Frankie Award” to board member George H. Brown, a true champion for kids who has displayed an extra measure of generosity and leadership in service to the club.

The award honors the late Frank Avent, a long term board member and generous supporter who demonstrated to board and staff how to give to the community by serving others who need us the most.

George Brown has served on the board of directors of the Rick and Susan Goings Boys & Girls Club in Hemingway since 2004, and has been on the organization’s corporate board since 2009.

“George’s influence in the Hemingway community is an example to other board members,” said Erik Marechal, board chair. “His willingness and ability to lead the Pepsi Classic committee to one of its most successful tournaments in its 31-year history is a testament to George’s commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area and to the 3,200 children we serve at our six locations annually.”
