New Year’s Eve 2016

Taxman

revolver album coverRemember back before all music was digital? No, not CDs or tapes. I mean ALL the way back to vinyl albums! If so, the cover art at the left might look familiar. The song “Taxman” from this album said “There’s one for you, nineteen for me… ’cause I’m the taxman.”

If the end of the year has you thinking about your 2016 tax return, we have a win-win suggestion: donate BEFORE MIDNIGHT to support life-changing programs for children and teens around the Pee Dee, and your contribution to our 501(c)(3) organization will be fully tax-deductible for 2016. You get the tax break, and kids get daily programs to help them succeed in school, learn healthy lifestyle habits, and become productive, caring members of your community.

P.S.- Please consider joining the “Blue Door Club” with a MONTHLY gift to extend your generosity throughout the year. It’s not too late! THANK YOU for your support!

OR…

Smart phoneWant an even quicker and easier way to show your support? Here’s the two-minute option: Text KIDS to 27722. Be sure to wait for the response and follow the directions to confirm your gift (depending on who your carrier is). Your $10 donation will appear on your next phone bill, and we promise it will go directly to programs that help our members. THANKS!

Props for Phillip!

smiling teensTeens need a fun, safe place!

At 6’3″ and 200 lbs., 15 year-old Phillip was a high school sophomore with a bad attitude. The oldest of four children in a single parent home, Phillip was being raised by his mother, with guidance from his grandparents, too. His struggles at home created problems at school and on the streets. Phillip learned to use his size to intimidate; before long, stuck with a bad reputation, he ended up “in the system.” DJJ sent him to the Boys & Girls Club for 50 hours of community service.

At first, Phillip resisted being there. After four days of defiance, the director called him to the office. Phillip admitted that he wanted to be part of the Club’s programs, because it looked like the members were having fun and learning, while he had to work. The director invited him to participate in any Club activities as long as he could behave. So Phillip joined in the programs while also completing his mandatory work. He enjoyed it so much that when he’d finished his 50 hours, he stayed on as a Club member.

Over the next few months, Phillip’s behavior changed dramatically. He developed solid leadership skills, and became a colorful and outstanding Club member. He led teen discussions, including a meeting on how to get more teens involved. He even organized a cookout and an all-male sleepover for the “Passport to Manhood” program.

Months later, Phillip’s grandma came by the Club to greet the director with a big hug and a thank you. She was so proud of the changes Phillip had made since he joined the Club. She wanted to be sure he would continue with us to take advantage of the opportunity to become a better student and a better person.

Phillip’s happy ending is just one of the many success stories that supporters like you have helped make possible. Please GIVE NOW to provide hundreds of kids with a safe place to become their best selves every day after school and all summer long. Don’t delay; DO IT NOW! (Your donations are always tax-deductible!)

The Countdown is On!

rocket launch

Those of us “of a certain age” remember the excitement on May 5, 1961, as Alan Shepard, Jr. prepared to become the first American in space. Five…Four…Three…Two…One…Liftoff!

That’s the same feeling we’re having at the Boys & Girls Club as we count down to the end of the year. Even our goals are similar- a successful LIFTOFF of another year to help kids launch their GREAT FUTURES.

Just like the hundreds of men and women at the NASA ground control center, YOU are critical to our mission! Please DONATE NOW to ensure that hundreds of kids will have a safe place to learn and grow and succeed every day after school and all summer long. Don’t delay; DO IT NOW! (And your donation is tax-deductible!)
